Although always more discreet and “behind the scenes”, the online work gives us a very strong sense of accomplishment, especially when we see, as through our online monitors, the great need being fulfilled with the distribution of text and audio bibles to the whole world. Recently we have noticed increasing traffic from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, for example, where the majority of the people are Muslims and where, of course, Bibles are not available for sale. On the other hand, we also noticed increasing traffic from countries such as Germany and Sweden, and after a close look at the reports we verify that the contents being downloaded and pages accessed are in large part in Arabic, Farsi, Turkish and other Middle East languages. We find this very fascinating and, again, our sense of mission towards this world in constant change is renewed. Recently we heard the President of Portugal saying on TV, when asked what would he take in a backpack if he (hypothetically) would be a refugee – in his TV statement, part of a campaign towards more sympathy and support for refugees in Europe, among other things that he considers essential, he mentioned he would take a Bible.
Well, in line with the intents of this campaign, we have been providing free Bibles to those (including refugees) who do not have the money to buy, or most likely cannot find one easily available in the countries they live or come from.
