School Choir

By Gloria

Hi everyone, This month has been busy, exciting and memorable! Recently I’ve been part of a dance class in Rosslyn and I’m totally enjoying it. It’s a whole mix of ballet, jazz, some hip hop and everything else. It is one of the highlights of my week. We are so “good” that we are even  considering performing at the school’s talent show in late November! This semester I have also joined one of Rosslyn’s high school choirs and over the past few months I’ve learned a bit of music theory, harmonies and proper singing. We’re a choir of sixteen kids and a wonderful teacher and conductor; Mrs. Statler. It’s been a really new experience for me but I am loving it so much. I got to sing (by the way I’m an alto!) for the first time on stage and in front of a lot of people on Friday the 24th in my choir. We sang a whole variety of music; from a classic by Handel, Forever Blest is He; two soul and gospel songs called Fill-A-Me-Up and Praise His Holy Name; and two contemporary secular pieces: At Last and Don’t Stop Believin’. I also wrote a short introduction for Don’t Stop Believin’ which I read before the song. Although it’s quite sappy, I thought I would write it out for you guys:) “‘Don’t Stop Believin’ is a popular song originally performed by the band Journey. Although it is a secular song, it has a lot to teach us about life. ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ portrays the story of a boy and girl who run to the city in search of happiness and fulfillment. In their search, they turn to many different things the world offers, only to find that the world has left them lonely and unfulfilled. Along the way, they meet one another and others who are hiding in the shadows. They also encounter ‘streetlight people’. I personally like to think of these streetlight people as Christians. In the song, the streetlight people are told to shine their light. This is a great reminder to me to help others stay in the light. The song ends with the words: ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, reminding us to never stop believing in what we know is true!” This choir and dance class has been such a blessing and delight to my life. I think dad will be sending some clips from the concert to all of you guys. Hope you enjoy it! Lots of Love.
