Home front – October 2021

 Donna:

October came upon us as a whirlwind!  In the beginning of the month we were confronted with two tropical storms, the second of which caused flooding in one section of our home. Our house is situated on the ground level with one section set in a significantly lower level. The continuous torrential downpour that lasted all night deposited an overabundance of water for our inadequate village draining system. The water actually leaked through seems in the wall at the floor level corners. We bailed out the water during the morning hours and thankfully, by late afternoon, the rain had subsided and we were able to dry out the remaining puddles. Subsequently, Jorge spent some time cementing a barrier between the outer wall and the sidewalk. Hopefully, it will be effective during the next downpour!

Next to hit us was a debilitating bout of tinnitus in Jorge’s ears. This has been an ongoing battle for the past weeks and it has led to anxiety and insomnia.  We are learning the qualities of patience and faith at a time when God’s answers don’t arrive as quickly as we would like them to.

The good news is that Zachary Soares is now 6 years old! Zach is very excited about life, kindergarten, soccer and Legos! It is so very interesting to have discussions with him about his projects, animals and sports even when the conversations are held via a cell phone connection!  Donna also advanced in age this month and enjoyed a delightful time celebrating with family! With so many brilliant dynamic people around it is hard to feel old as they keep pumping us with energy and excitement for life! ” I Thank God for them and the gift of good health to keep up with all that life throws at me as the years go by!”

Donna happy birthday with Aurora and Isabel.
