Christmas! One of the most wonderful times of the year! I am convinced that it is because we are praising Christ as King more frequently throughout the entire month of December! Our spirits are lifted through constant reminders of the infant Messiah and it seems like more of the kingdom of heaven has come down to earth!  We became acquainted with some previously unknown to us classic renditions of Christmas hymns this season and they truly blessed our times of song and praise and worship!

As family, we were able to be together for our Christmas Eve dinner and Carol singing tradition and partake in a Zoom Christmas call with the members of our family who are living abroad. We also wished Gabriel, a very happy birthday on the 23rd, as, even though he is far away, he is always so close to home during Christmas Sweet Riley also celebrated her 3rd birthday on the 3rd of December!  Riley and family are thoroughly enjoying a very, very White Christmas this year!

In Portugal, Gloria was involved in the organization of the initiative “Natal Diferente” founded by medical students from the two faculties of medicine in Lisbon. The goal of this initiative was to bring a little bit of the Christmas spirit and share a moment of care through music, personal conversation and small gifts with hospitalized patients who find themselves away from home and family on Christmas but also with nursing home and other institution residents. The organizers reached out to many hospitals, nursing homes, institutions, donors and fellow students to carry out the task of reaching thousands of people in Lisbon but also in other places in Portugal (Beja, Santarém, Leiria and Madeira). They also showed love and appreciation to medical staff working through the Christmas Holidays.

Jason had his debut as coach for the under 16 Sporting team.  Jason has been training the boys since summer and they have been putting in a lot of hard work and dedication. A friendly tournament, the Xmas cup, was held between the local youth teams. Sporting’s chemistry was good and was able to take first place! It was good friendly completion and an inspiring experience for all!

As the New Year arrived, we joined to share our thankfulness, prayers and verses for the upcoming year in a simple but meaningful ceremony. We light our small candle to receive light from the big candle which represents Jesus. Thus, we are stating that through receiving and being filled with the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, we are thankful for the many blessings and mercies the Lord has shown us throughout the past year, despite the challenges and difficulties that life presented.  Also, because we believe the promises in His Word, we can expect Jesus to help us achieve the goals and prayers we have for the year to come. Jesus Christ, our living Hope!
